With simple ingredients and easy directions, this apple tart is as easy to make as, well, apple pie!

Flaky Apple Tart
Servings 12

Ingredients

1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
12 tablespoons Granny Smith apple (approx. 1/2 large), with skin, diced
4 tablespoons apple butter
4 tablespoons nonfat cream cheese
Cinnamon/Sugar topping
1 tablespoon pecans, unsalted, chopped
non-stick cooking spray
12 muffin size pan

Cinnamon/Sugar Topping
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350.
  2. Thaw frozen puff pastry according to package directions, approx. 40 minutes.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, cut pastry into 12 equal size pieces and place one piece in each muffin pan that has been lightly sprayed with the non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Prick the pastry with a fork and coat each with 1 teaspoon of the apple butter.
  5. Place 1 tablespoon of the diced apple on top of the apple butter followed by 1 teaspoon cream cheese.
  6. Mix the sugar and the cinnamon together in a small bowl and sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon on top of the cream cheese. Follow with 1/4 teaspoon nuts.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the apples are tender and the pastry is golden.
