In an effort to help protect the most vulnerable members of the community, more than 190 high-risk Meals on Wheels OC Adult Day Health Center (ADHC) participants, family caregivers, and health care staff have received initial doses of the COVID-19 vaccine during the first of several events planned at ADHC locations in Santa Ana and Anaheim.

The events, planned in collaboration with Families Together, have helped bring a sense of peace to participants and the family members who care for them. “Our ADHC participants require ongoing medical care coordination and therefore don’t have the option to shelter at home during this pandemic,” said Gio Corzo, Vice President of Home and Care Services. “These vaccines are a vital step in alleviating some of their fears during an already challenging time.”

Families were thrilled to receive the call that vaccines were available after weeks of difficulty trying to make public appointments online. In the words of one caregiver, “It was the best call I have received in over a year. Hope is real!”
